Who We Are
The Florida Authors & Publishers Association, Inc. (FAPA) is dedicated to providing the most current quality information, valuable resources, professional development and networking opportunities to its members and the general public with an interest in writing and publishing in the State of Florida and beyond.
At FAPA, we believe that no member should have to go it alone in publishing. We are dedicated to helping members achieve success. Toward that goal, we:
- Host regional and state-wide educational conferences for authors and publishers
- Provide opportunities to cost-effectively exhibit at Florida literary events and other publishing conferences
- Sponsor the annual FAPA President’s Book Awards to recognize excellence
- Facilitate networking and collaboration in our member community
- and so much more!
The Florida Authors & Publishers Association, Inc., was originally organized in 1983 (then known as the Florida Publishers Group) by Betty Wright (Rainbow Books, Inc.) to provide Florida’s growing group of book publishers with an opportunity for education and networking and to provide its members with a clearinghouse for publishing information. FPG became FPA (Florida Publishers Association) and began with only six members. In 2012 FPA expanded the name to FAPA (Florida Authors & Publishers Association) to include a steadily increasing number of authors within the organization.
FAPA Founders Award
The FAPA Founders Award was created to honor a deserving author or publisher member who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Florida Authors & Publishers Association, its members, and the publishing profession.
FAPA’s President will solicit nominations from members of the Board of Directors and the general membership 60 days prior to the Annual Meeting. Nominees may self-nominate or be nominated by another FAPA member. Names of nominees must be submitted to the President 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting. The President and President-Elect will review the nominations and submit a list of candidates to the members of the Board of Directors who will vote on that year’s recipient. A plaque will be presented to the winning nominee at the Annual Conference.
Criteria for Nominees:
● Must be a member of FAPA
● Must have contributed to FAPA’s mission by providing “information, resources and professional development” to the organization
● Must have used their skills and talents to support the operation of the organization
The Florida Library Association
Independent Book Publishers Association
IBPA is a trade association of independent publishers. Founded in 1983, it serves book, audio, and video publishers located in the United States and around the world. Its mission is to advance the professional interests of independent publishers. To this end, IBPA provides cooperative marketing programs, conferences, online education and advocacy within the publishing industry. IBPA offers beneficial programs and information to all 4,000 member publishers, regardless of their size or experience.
IBPA offers scholarships for FAPA members to the IBPA Publishing University, donates memberships as door prizes at FAPA conferences, provides a forum for affiliate representatives from around the country to discuss ways to improve affiliate groups, and encourages its members in Florida to join FAPA. IBPA even offers FAPA members a healthy discount when they join IBPA.
Association of Publishers of Special Sales
Since 1996, APSS has been committed to supporting authors and independent publishers as a nonprofit trade association. Their mission is to build successful writing and publishing businesses. With?800+ members, Association of Publishers of Special Sales (APSS) runs a wide gamut from one-book self-publishers and authors to firms with more than 800 books in print. APSS’s membership also includes suppliers to the publishing industry. These Sponsor and Associate Vendor Members are resources for the products and services publishers and writers need. APSS provides benefits to its members that will help sell more books, make more money, and raise their standing as experts in their field. APSS is a dynamic, growing organization dedicated to the success of our members.
APSS is a valued affiliate organization for FAPA. From offering APSS memberships as door prizes at FAPA conferences to offering FAPA members a discount on APSS memberships. APSS supports FAPA and offers FAPA members a “Partner” discount.
