Former teacher and school district administrator who consistently focuses on creating opportunities for all children to reach their potential and enjoy academic success.
A Story of Courage: Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor?is Dr. Burton?s fifth book. She co-authored two books for teachers and parents;?The Complete Guide to RtI: An Implementation Toolkit (2011), and?Mathematics, the Common Core, and RtI: An Integrated Approach to Teaching in Today’s Classrooms (2013). Her children?s picture books,?But You Don?t Look Like Me?(2015), and?Bully Billy is Back! The Burrowing Owls Are Worried (2016), teach lessons of kindness and the acceptance of differences between individuals using owl characters. Bullying resources are included at the end of Bully Billy is Back! for parents and teachers. Dr. Burton retired as a chair of teacher education and a professor at New York Institute of Technology. She received two Fulbright Senior Scholar Awards to assist universities in South Africa and Iceland to improve instruction.
