Born in upstate New York in the early 60’s, Patti Brassard Jefferson was an early bookworm, filler of notebooks and creator of random art projects. Not much changed when the family relocated to Virginia when she was in sixth grade. Art class was her happy place and English was her favorite subject.
Not exactly suited for a job around normal people, Jefferson ran her own graphic design business, a paint-it-yourself pottery studio, and finally an art gallery when she chased the sun to Florida in 2010.
In 2013, Jefferson finally released her first children’s book, How Long Will You Love Me. She followed that up with Stu’s Big Party in 2014 which went on to win a FAPA Silver Medal. With two illustrated books under her belt, she started to illustrate picture books for other authors including the award-winning books: You’re a Crocagator by Kenny Rager (2015) and Bode the Beach Dog: Life is Ruff (2016) by Tara and Geoff Moser.
While trying to get her books into retail locations, Jefferson became frustrated with the options and, after much research, opened the Gulf Coast Bookstore - one of the very first all indie author bookstores in the world. Six months later, in October of 2015, she opened the first P.J. Boox.
When not writing or running the bookstore, Jefferson likes to create large scale mosaics or repurpose discarded, curb-shopped furniture. She loves to “coco” with her Blueberry, drink wine and watch Sex and the City in yoga pants with her brilliant daughter and spend time near the water with her IslandBoy and two rescued mutts. The keys to her heart are sidewalk chalk, bubbles and 80’s dance parties under a palm tree. Clearly, she has learned to embrace her creative weirdness.
